Meet the YCSB Board:

President: Courtney Farr (YSN ‘06)

Courtney Farr is a family nurse practitioner YSN Class of 2006. Farr holds multiple positions both as a medical provider at the Veterans Affairs Clinic in San Luis Obispo California providing Primary Care full time and as CEO/Founder of House Calls Mobile®️, a startup company in Pismo Beach California that provides live virtual doctors visits from a smartphone or tablet. Additionally Farr is a patent holder and innovator/inventor of the ‘virtual stethoscope/otoscope’ which can be used to listen to heart and lungs as well as look into ears during a live virtual doctors visit. Farr graduated from USC in 2000 with a bachelors degree in nursing and Yale University in 2006 with a masters degree as a family nurse practitioner. Farr has been the recipient of multiple awards including most recently the American Nurses Association “Nurse Pitch Award” and the “Tribune’s Top 20 under 40 Award”. Farr currently resides in Pismo Beach California and spends her free time with her husband Brian, dog Monty and cat Banjo exploring the countryside and volunteering.

Building on a geology degree from UCSB, Peck earned a master’s in coastal and watershed systems at the School of Forestry and Environmental Studies (YFES). For the past 30 years, Peck helped governments and businesses on coastal, river and estuary restoration efforts. As Global Practice Leader at Dames & Moore/URS and Vice President at Arcadis, Peck applied sediment remediation expertise in the US, Europe, South America and Asia and authored the first regional sediment management plan for the Port of New York/New Jersey.  In  independent consultancy, he developed strategic resource management plans/policies for the Department of Defense and multinational corporations. Peck  pioneered facilities to beneficially use dredged material in manufactured products through innovative technologies.  As a licensed professional geologist and consulting Technical Service Provider for USDA Natural Resource Conservation Service, Peck currently assists farmers in addressing environmental concerns. He served on the YFES Alumni Board of Directors for six years and continues to mentor YFES students.  Sailing, surfing, cycling and art continue to be Gene Peck's passions and he has one daughter.

Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer: Lowell Dicke

Lowell Dicke has a JD 1965 from the Yale Law School and an MA 1965 in Economics from the Yale Graduate School of Economics. Since graduation he worked for the U.S. State Department stationed at the U.S. Mission to the United Nations, Litton Industries law department in Beverly Hills, and head of project finance first at Fluor Corporation in Los Angeles and then at the Bechtel Group in San Francisco. He continued on as a partner at the regional investment bank Montgomery Securities in San Francisco, and began his career with "green" companies in 1985. These include Chief Financial Officer of the 2nd largest wind power company in the U.S., Chief Financial Officer for a company with technology for an advanced power cycle for utility scale electrical power plants, a company, now public, with an energy saving device for seawater desalination, a venture with a new pump design that is the most efficient positive displacement pump, and a shipping container logistics company that greatly reduces empty repositioning. Mr. Dicke enjoys golf and Pilates, has one daughter and one granddaughter, and resides in Los Olivos. He was President of the Yale Club of the Peninsula 1988-1992, and is a member of the Yale Club of New York City since 1966.

Jaquelyn Pawela-Crew

Graduated from Yale College class of ‘89 Ezra Stiles with a B.S.E. in Chemical Engineering. Afterwards, she received a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering at Stanford. After working at Intel for 22 years, Pawela-Crew left to pursue her passion to transform healthcare. Pawela-Crew is a healthcare consultant at Cognizant working with hospital and clinics. She is also Secretary of the board at Girls Inc. Carpinteria. When not working, she spends time with family, in a yoga class or jogging on the beach with her dog. Ms. Pawela-Crew is married to Bill Crew, Yale ‘89 Ezra Stiles and has two daughters ages 19 and 21 years old.

Mark Silverberg

Graduated Yale college 1990 (Trumbull) and attended medical school at UCSF. Mr. Silverberg now practices pediatric ophthalmology and adult strabismus at Sansum Clinic in Santa Barbara. Mr. Silverberg is the Vice President of the board for Santa Barbara HIllel and a volunteer for SEE international both locally and internationally. In his spare time he enjoys hiking, ocean swimming, and surfing. He is married to Sarice, a UCSB graduate and has 3 kids.

Mimi Do

Mimi Do graduated Yale College in 2000 (Saybrook) and hold's a Masters in Public Administration from Columbia University. She was a member and board member for Whim 'n Rhythm, and was also in Something Extra and the Yale Symphony Orchestra as an undergrad. Originally from Massachusetts, Mimi has lived in New York, Seoul, Los Angeles, and now Carpinteria. She is currently CFO of the Music Academy, where she oversees finance, facilities, and operations for their beautiful campus in Montecito. Prior to moving to Santa Barbara, Mimi was a consultant with Jones & Associates in LA, where she served as an outsourced CFO specifically for nonprofit organizations. She has worked at the Juilliard School, Lincoln Center, Boston Symphony Orchestra, and that "other" school in Cambridge. She was also a Fulbright English Teaching Fellow in South Korea. Mimi enjoys beach life in Carp with her dog Bailey, VP of Cuddles. She continues to play viola, sing, and is learning improv.

Bill Crew

Bill graduated class of '89 from Ezra Stiles and one of two chemical engineers graduating that year. After getting a Ph.D. at Stanford, Bill began his career in high-tech working at Intel Corporation developing new manufacturing processes that created the brains of computers, cell phones, and other digital devices. Bill continues to work in high tech for Lam Research, a company that supplies manufacturing equipment that exhibit atomic-level control to chip manufacturers.

Bill and his wife are empty-nesters with two daughters that recently graduated from college and are starting their careers. Bill enjoys Yoga, surfing, biking, and hiking. Bill supports gender equality and supports underprivileged youth by championing Girls Inc of the Pacific Northwest. Bill enjoys working with all members of the Yale Club of Santa Barbara in activities that bring us together to contribute to our community, to learn from each other's experiences and just have fun.

Gautam Barua (Chair of Young Alumni sub-committee)

Gautam (“G”) Barua (Davenport College ’93) is a climate-focused investor and entrepreneur currently focused on decarbonizing real estate, which is the leading driver of global greenhouse gas emissions. G first became interested in the intersection of climate, business, and capital while in college. In addition to paying for school by working for the Yale Investments Office, he assisted with a climate model that earned his adviser, Prof. William Nordhaus, the Nobel Prize in Economics. G also co-led the Yale Student Environmental Coalition and chaired Yale Recycling. Over the course of his career, he has led $80M of profitable clean water and energy deals, helped spark a $1.5B cleantech investment program at CalPERS, founded a leading clean energy firm, advised major corporations on sustainability, and headed multidisciplinary teams on climatetech initiatives. He has also held M&A, advisory, and new business roles at McKinsey and Morgan Stanley, as well as executive roles in Silicon Valley. G earned a BA cum laude in Economics and Mathematics at Yale and an MBA with Distinction at Harvard, where he also completed executive education in entrepreneurship. His other Yale-related activities have included serving on the Yale Daily News Board of 1991 and as the Class of 1993 delegate to the Yale Alumni Association.
